“Dance is the hidden language of the soul.” -Martha Graham

Rohan has loved all aspects of dance ever since he can remember. He loves watching it, training in it, and most of all, performing it. Rohan has been training and performing in various disciplines and is quite a versatile dancer. From dancing for cultural purposes to performing with a professional dance company, Rohan has fully immersed himself in all realms of the dance world.

Training

Training

Rohan started dancing at the age of 4 in Bollywood dance classes at the Shiamak Davar Institute of Peforming Arts. Rohan fell in love with it after the first class and went on to train and perform with them over the next 7 years. After participating in a dance workshop encompassing several styles of dance, Rohan’s eyes were opened to what else the dance world had to offer. He then stopped training and performing in Bollywood and began taking classes at a local dance school. After one year, he joined their competitive team and trained with them in ballet, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary and musical theatre while competing with them for three years. During his final year competing, Rohan enrolled in the dance program at a performing arts high school, Cawthra Park Secondary School. There, Rohan began training much more heavily in ballet, specifically the RAD technique, as well as in the Limon technique of modern.

Rohan continued his studies in the dance program at Cawthra Park, however he left the competition studio as he was invited to perform as a full company member with the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre, a professional Toronto-based modern dance company for young dancers. He trained at CCDT’s school in RAD ballet and Limon modern while performing with the company and continuing his studies at Cawthra Park. After one season, Rohan stopped performing and training at CCDT, but continued his training at Cawthra Park and began training at Sean Boutilier Academy of Dance. Rohan graduated from Cawthra Park in 2015 and currently continues his dance training at the post-secondary level. He currently trains in ballet, jazz and tap in the Honours Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance Program at Sheridan College.

Performances

Performance Experience

Rohan began performing Bollywood dance with the Shiamak Davar Institute’s youth performance group, and did so for about 5 years. He then moved on to compete with a local dance studio at competitions for 3 years before joining the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre for their 2012/2013 season. He performed with them as a full company member in all of their shows throughout the year, including performances at Dance Ontario Dance Weekend, as well as in the company’s shows such as Wintersong, Vectors, and their Teasing Gravity tour around Ontario. That same year, Rohan also started performing with Cawthra Park’s resident dance company, Cawthra Park Dance Repertoire. During the 2012/2013 year, they had the chance to perform at small local venues as well as at the Mississauga Arts Awards. For the 2013/2014 season, Rohan only performed with Cawthra Park Dance Repertoire in their performances at several small venues, a TED Conference, and also at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. While he was not a full company member with the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre for this season, he was invited back to perform as a guest artist in their spring show, Fulcrum. Rohan most recently performed with Cawthra Park Dance Repertoire for their 2014/2015 season, which included performances in New York City.
